Following Meta’s latest revelation that they are shifting their focus from constructing online platforms into generating what they refer to as the next version of the internet, the buzzword on everybody’s mouth is “Metaverse.”

The concept of Metaverse is not new at all since it was popularized by a Science-Fiction author, Neal Stephenson, in his 1992 book ‘Snow Crash.’ Stephenson envisioned that the Metaverse will be a collective and associated world wherein the virtual avatars of users might also socialize with each other. In this case, someone’s prestige will also be ascertained by the expertise of someone’s avatar.

Whereas the firm previously recognized that Facebook is reluctant to accept Stephenson’s futuristic shades, their perspective of the Metaverse is similar. Thus, they have foreseen that this will be a mutual and affiliated online reality in which people like you can easily gain knowledge, as well as collaborate, make purchases, socialize, watch games, and begin creating.

The Metaverse in Its Early Stages

Whilst also Meta’s revelation may have produced the most noise in this environment, they are hardly the first or the one institution attempting to develop this novel virtual world. Previous iterations of the Metaverse appeared in the early 2000s, which became the greatest prominently Second Life, developed by the San Francisco-based firm Linden Labs. This online environment had an approximated 800,000 – 900,000 active users at its peak in 2007.

The Metaverse already includes digital games like Fortnite and Roblox, as well as virtual communities like Decentraland.

Decentraland’s Communications Lead, Dave Carr, implied that if people implemented rooms and spaces on Twitter, they would face a lot of backlashes. On discussing what is that good thing about the Metaverse has already been founded, and it is explained that the engagement is what sets it out apart from others. Truly, this is a very engaging platform due to a large number of societies and subscribers in numerous imaginary spaces.

Meanwhile, when he was questioned regarding what the Metaverse is and why Facebook is placing such a large bet on it, he mentioned that if people would only consider the Metaverse as a diverse experience, they will discover its various blockchains, as well as the gaming guilds and NFT groups such as the Bored Ape Yacht Club.

As a result, he also appended that there is a lot to catch up on than just simply the Metaverse itself, implying that there will be several websites and activities that will be part of only one Metaverse. The abundance of resources that the Metaverse will be able to dig into the implementation of this type incarnated web is where it is probable to distinguish itself among frontrunners.

The organization states that it intends to hire 10,000 Metaverse developers in the European Union. Aside from that, the firm has already created data-driven decisions that may contribute to making their model of the Metaverse far more credible than other variations.

The Next Version Of The Internet

Meta’s €2.02 billion acquisition of Oculus, which is the leading company in experiential VR technology in 2014, enables the firm to establish headphones with sensor nodes that are capable of tracking facial expressions and facial gestures.

Furthermore, Meta Reality labs, or the firm’s strong research and development arm, successfully launched a working model of haptic gloves which is a wearable device that can simulate the haptic feedback in a simulated environment.

The Next Version Of The Internet Wil Include The Open Metaverse and the Meta Metaverse

Generally, the Open Metaverse and Meta Metaverse are two different concepts that are often used interchangeably.

Given the resources at their disposal, today’s technology behemoths are likely to have a substantial impact on how the Metaverse will successfully unfold and emerge. Carr, on the other hand, believes that because of how the Meta Metaverse is likely to be constructed and operated, there should be plenty of room for co-existing societal worlds.

This suggests that users will be able to have more options to enjoy the simulated setup of activities. He went on to say that if Facebook succeeds as a social media network, people should expect their virtual world and Metaverse systems to be decentralized.

However, he immediately countered that a decentralized approach might not work, so it would be best not to make any assertions until it was handed over to the public. In that case, people would then be in charge of telling the corporation how to run and operate.

This suggests that people should anticipate a more centrally controlled experience based on history. Decentraland, on the other hand, is a community-owned decentralized social world based on the Ethereum blockchain.

In this virtual world, “Land” is purchased using NFTs, and the owner has a say in how the digital world operates. Carr also mentions that the decentralized approach enables participants to remain anonymous. He went on to say that the blockchain is best known to most people as a bitcoin address or any other kind of character or avatar that they want to generate. As a result, there is the possibility of remaining anonymous.

However, this does not imply that the blockchain is free for all, and it is most emphatically not about data capture. It’s a very straightforward approach to the situation. People are drawn to the decentralized model because they can truly have that space where they can develop or communicate themselves in whatever way they want within reason.

Furthermore, the information provided only shows that the next version of the Internet will be larger, safer, and faster. This is since digital communication is no longer in its infant stages, with dial-up internet access giving way to high-speed internet, and the times of depending on powerline networking are gone forever, with many machines now able to communicate to the internet via wireless nodes.

Thus, the Metaverse will be the greatest potential for a better future in technology since it will be the only channel that focuses on three-dimensional digital environments concerned with social interaction. There is no need to fear what’s coming in the next years since it is guaranteed that all they will be launching are better and secured.
